Gilmore Dining Hall was named for Robert Gilmore, the first dean of students. He left a significant bequest to the college in his will allowing construction of this important building in the heart of the campus on the west side of the river.

This winter view includes Pats Peak (rear), Colby Hall (left middle), West Hall (right middle), and the covered bridge (front). This image was taken sometime after 1971.

Donald Crane, of Washington, New Hampshire, is pictured with his oxen. On May 8, 1972, the team of oxen began hauling the 90-ton covered bridge inch by inch over the Contoocook River. It took five days to put the bridge in place. The New England College covered bridge is the first authentic covered bridge ever to be constructed by any college and the first one to be built in the state of New Hampshire in over 100 years.
